Basuki Optimistic Flood will Recede Quickly

Acting Jakarta Governor, Basuki 'Ahok' T Purnama is optimistic flood predicted to inundate Jakarta this year will recede quickly. Basuki admitted the city administration has done various ways to cope with flooding, ranging from demolishing illegal buildings as well as normalizing drains, rivers, and dams.

"I believe flood will quickly recede this year than previous years, at least one day," he expressed, Thursday (11/13).

According to him, for years, water in Jakarta that flowing into the estuary in the north hampered by illegal buildings or houses. In addition, the gutter's function that should accommodate water is no longer optimal.

Ahok Claims Flood Handling Preparations This Year Better

"The dams in the north are still under normalization process. If it is completed, flood problem can be anticipated," he told.

He continued water pumps have also been installed to reduce water volume in certain regions. "We had installed pump waters as an anticipation," he uttered.

Nevertheless, he said, flooding in some regions is still difficult to be anticipated. Moreover, its river has been normalized maximally.

"Particularly South Jakarta, is very prone to flooding. This is because the river only has a width of 5 meters from 25 meters due to illegal buildings. But we will demolish them soon, like in North Jakarta," he asserted.
